Do-it-yourself "Fusion 3 Salon" quality Fishtail Braid

A simple style that can provide a change to your look is a braid. Weather you pull it to the side, or wrap it up in a bun, braids are a quick and easy to get your hair off your neck for that summer heat.
However, the traditional braid isn’t what I’m talking about. Fishtail braiding is another option. They provide more of a textured or messy look, (perfect for hot weather hair!) and are just as easy to achieve as a regular three-strand braid.

Before you braid it is important to prep the hair to guarantee the desired result:

- To add more texture to fine slippery hair try adding Aveda’s Pure Abundance Hair Potion. Sprinkle in a little in the mid-shaft and ends and rub in. It instantly makes the hair feel up to 17% thicker!

- To smooth out frizz on dry hair, apply Aveda’s Light Elements Smoothing Fluid to tame frizz and add shine.

-To finish any look, spray Aveda’s Sun Care Protective Hair Veil for instant shine and sun protection for up to 16 hours.

Now, all you need is a head of hair, a few products, and these simple step-by-step instructions to rock that fishtail this season.

It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

Step 1: Separate
*If this is your first time fishtailing I recommend gathering the hair into a low side ponytail, securing with an elastic hair tie. This will give you more control while you are learning the technique.

Divide the ponytail into two equal sections. Separate a skinny strand of hair from the left section.

Step 2: Crossover

Cross the skinny section you just separated from the left and add it to the right section of hair. Pull tight.

Step 3: Repeat!
Separate a small section of hair from the right side and cross it over to the left, merging it with that section.
